Camp reflection.

W.A.L.T. upload our camp reflection and write about it on a blog.

Today we had to reflect on the year five and six camp. As above you can clearly see my reflection and why I like/enjoyed it. Last week we went to Aroha island with Kereru. We went to camp so we can experience the nature and what it is like  to be a part of fun experiences and learning. We did alot of fun activities like walking, kayaking, sleeping, Kiwi spotting but my personal favourite was eating.

Have you ever been to Aroha Island?
Do you want to see a Kiwi?

MaItAi BaY bRoChUrE

W.A.L.T: Create and upload a blog post on our inquiry task that we have been working on.

For inquiry our class has been learning to create brochures about Maitai Bay. About two weeks ago I made a brochure about Maitai bay with Peyton. We had to include some reasonable information about Maitai bay and the rahui that was placed there. Here is my brochure.

My Maitai Bay Brochure.

I learnt that Maitai bay has a rahui.

I enjoyed editing and finding information for the brochure

I could improve by adding more photos.

Have you ever been diving at Maitai bay?

Kiwi Can Lesson

W.A.L.T upload a post showing what we learnt in Kiwi Can today.

Today we had Kiwi Can. Our focus today was respect, the catchphrase that goes with it is : "We will respect our school we will do it because we're cool". We played two games, the games we played were called Snap, crackle and pop and So,ma,ca,lo. This is how you play Snap, crackle and pop; First you have to get into groups of three and decide who is going to be snap who's going to be crackle and same with pop. Today I was in a group with Mia and Sofia, Mia was crackle Sofia was pop and I was snap. Once you have sorted that out you have to get into a circle with the other groups then somebody has to yell out snap, crackle or pop for instance if they yelled out snap then the people that were snaps including me would have to run around the circle and the other two people would have to put their leg up and then snap would have to run under their legs and get what ever is in the middle of the circle the first person to get it gets a point the people with the most points at the end win! Here is a photo of us playing So, ma, ca, lo:

How I showed respect is not being a sore loser and having a fit.
I enjoyed playing these games because it is nice to run around and have fun.
I could improve on being more careful when running around because it is a hazard.
Have you ever played snap, crackle and pop before?

Trip to Te Puna Wai Ora pools.

Yesterday we went on a trip to Te Puna Wai Ora pools centre so we could learn how to snorkel. My favourite task that we did was when we had to go  under water with the snorkel, and the blow out the water like a whale! The reason we did this was because next Thursday we will be going to Maitai bay to explore the marine reserves for the Experiencing marine reserves program. Our instructor's name is Oliver, Oliver is preparing us for the Maitai bay trip so we can snorkel and discover the different types of fish.

What I learnt was to get all of my hair out of the mask otherwise it would leak.

What I enjoyed was going through the hoop under water.

My one goal is to hold my breath for longer.

Have you ever gone snorkelling?

Maori language scratch test.

I.A.L.T Upload and create a blog post about my scratch.

Yesterday with whaea Donna we made a scratch project to test peoples Maori language knowledge, here are the steps we had to use.

First we had to write down our questions

Then we had to look at some other scratch's to see some cool ideas.

Next we had to remix one of them and add the questions that we wrote down on the paper.

What did I enjoy?

What I enjoyed was finishing this task because it felt good to get all of the pressure off of my shoulders.

What did I find challenging?

What I found challenging was finding the perfect character for my scratch because it is hard to find one.

Click here to try it out.

kiwi can

W.A.L.T Create and upload a blog post about our kiwi can lesson from today.

Today at Kiwi Can we played 5 games, I won't say all of them, but my favourite game was "peke peke". The word today was again Accountability. It means taking responsibility and ownership of you actions, the catchphrase was also the same as last time.. How the game went was that there would be somebody would call out peke and you had to jump in one of three different positions and if you jumped in the same positions as your partner you would have to say hei. If you said hei at the same time you had to do siccors ,paper, rock.

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
What I enjoyed was learning the new games we haven't played before because it was funny.

What did I find challenging?
What I found challenging was reacting fast enough because it was being said too fast.

Do you like the sound on Peke Peke?

KiwiCan

W.A.L.T write and upload a blog post about our Kiwican lesson.

Today we had Kiwican again, Kiwican had to go because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The word that we are now working on is accountability. What accountability means is to be honest and take responsibility for what we have done. Our new catchphrase is ;We are honest we are true, we take ownership for what we do.We played two games what we played  was: high tide, low tide and the other one was impossible connections how you play impossible connections is somebody will play some music and you have to dance as soon as the music stops, you have to stop, look and listen to your instructions for example; four, elbows this means you have to get into a group of four and touch elbows with each other another example is ten, feet this mean a group of ten and you have to be touching feet. Here are a few photos:

What I enjoyed was playing impossible connections because it was funny watching every one dance.
What I found challenging was playing high tide low tide because I wasn't fast enough.

How to make your very own geometric art.

I.A.L.T upload a blog post about our art and write about it.

For the past couple of weeks we have been working on some geometric art. The art below is not mine because I have not finished yet, here are the steps.

-First you chose the shape that you desire.

-Then you have to trace/draw the outline of your animal on an A4 or A3 piece of paper.

-Next you make all of the curved lines into edged straight lines with a ruler.

-After that you fill in the inside of the animal with different geometric shapes.

-Finally you can think/start filling in the shapes with patterns, paint, dye, colouring pencils or any other things you want!

When you are done your object/animal should look a little like this.

Have you ever done geometric art?

Commas

W.A.L.T upload our writing task and write about it.

Last week we had to learn about commas. We did a couple of lessons about commas to learn about how to use them and where to put them. After those few little lessons, we got given a task to make either a poster or animation with a buddy or two to teach children where to use them. I choose to make an animation with Peyton and Anika here is our animation.

What I enjoyed was adding in Squidward because he looks funny.
What I did well was add in some humour to make it more interesting because normal is boring.
What I could improve on is adding more places that you can put commas in.

Do you like our animation?

Thought message

I.A.L.T upload a  finished task from this week.

Today for our reading task, my group and I had to make a thought message about what it would be like if we were students from the future and time travelled back to the present. First we had to read the book. Next we went onto the google drawing and customised the background. Then we wrote a quick little fictional story/letter about what it is like in 2020. This is my message.

I enjoyed spelling the sports wrong on purpose because it looks funny.

What I did well was the background because I think the colours blend well.

I could improve on making it more descriptive.

What do you think it would be like in the future?

For the last week we have been working on our matariki art this is how we did it.
-First we got given one big star and one small star to trace on a piece of A3 paper.
-Next we had to draw some patterns and designs on our stars in pencil.
-Then we coloured in the designs (as you can see I left some of mine blank).
-After that we cut them out and stuck the on a A3 black piece of paper.
-Finally we cut the black piece of paper into a centimetre boarder.
Here is my star.

Climate change poster

I.A.L.T upload a learning task from this week.
For our task we had to use the text and the Antarctic links in the "explore more" column we had to find out more information about the work scientists are doing in Antarctica.
Next we had to create a poster answering the following questions:

  • What else are scientists learning about the risks of climate change and global warming?
  • How trustworthy are their findings? How would you critique this?
  • How would we share this information with other people?

Reflection time:
Something I enjoyed about this task was fining out more info and facts.
Something I found interesting was how BIG ice sheets can get.
Finally something I learnt was that snow didn't melt when it fell in Antarctica.

Would you want to go to Antarctica? Why? Why not?

Today for reading we read a story called Cancel the invasion. After we had read the text we had to start our writing task. Our writing task was to create a storyboard of the main ideas. In our storyboard we had to include the:
-Title and author
-Setting
-Characters
- Ideas at the beginning
-Ideas in middle

Maths Strategy O_o

W.A.L.T:Write about a maths strategy we have learnt.
The circles have been learning to use place value partitioning to solve addition and subtraction problems it helps me cause it makes problems more easier to solve and remember E.G
Sindy $192 and was given $67 for her days work. How much money did she have altogether?
so you would go $100+$0=$100 next you would do $90+$60=$150 After that you would add $2+$7=$9 and Finally you would put together $100+$150+$9=$259 That's how it works!

Have you ever used Place value partitioning?

How Do bees Make honey?

How do bees make honey?
W.A.L.T  write an explanation about how bees make honey.
this term we have been focusing on explanation writing the writing below is my "how do bees make honey?" explanation.

Did you know that one bee has to fly up to 90,000 miles 3 times around the
globe to make one pound of honey? The average bee will make about 12/1 of
a teaspoons of honey in its lifetime! A honey bee visits 50-100 flowers
in one collecting trip and as fast as 15 miles PH!

Honey bees collect nectar in the spring. They use their straw like tongue
(aka Proboscis) to suck out all of the nectar and pollen they can.

To carry the honey to the hive they store the honey in one
of their stomachs to make sure they don’t drop it anywhere.

Now they have to MAKE the honey the bees spit each others mouth
so it's nice and sticky next they spit it into the honeycomb, flap their wings
so it dries ,the seals the honey with a nice layer of wax

One the honey is produced and ready finally the keepers can prepare
it for sale! :D

I enjoyed writing this because it was fun and interesting to learn more about
bees!

Do you have any feedback for me?

Harry potter (W.I.P)

When Ron shouted ‘’Wingardium Leviosa!’’ The trolls bat went flying up into the air and then comes flying down then hits his head and knocks him out, the troll drops Harry just before CRASH! The troll hits the floor still confused about his bat.”Is it dead?’’ Hermione asks ‘’no i don’t think so just knocked out’’ says harry, harry grabs his wand out of the trolls nose’’egh troll bogies'’harry speaks. As professor Quirrel mcgonagall and snape come running in, next professor mcgonagall says ‘’oh my goodness explain yourselves both of you’’ hermione jumps in before Ron or harry can say anything, ‘’it was my fault’’ ‘’miss Granger’’ whispers mcgonagall. Hermione starts to speak again ‘’I went looking for the troll I read about them and thought I could handle it by myself but I was wrong if harry and Ron didn’t come to find me I’d probably be dead’’
‘’be that as it may it was an extremely foolish thing to do, I expected more rational behaviour and am very disappointed in you five points will be taken from Gryffindor...for your serious lack of judgement. As for you two gentlemen… I just hope you two realise how fortunate you are,Not many first year students could  take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points will be awarded to each of you...for sheer dumb luck. said professor mcgonagall ‘’Prehaps you ought to go, it might wake up he-he" Quirrel stutters. ‘’take a bit of toast, mate go on.’’ Ron stated ‘’Ron’s right Harry you’ll need your strength today.’’ Hermione urged ‘’I’m not hungry’’ Harry Pointed out ‘’Good luck today, Potter you’ve proven yourself against a troll. A little game of Quidditch should be easy work even if it is against Slitherin. Snape complemented ‘’that explains the blood’’ Harry exclaimed ‘’Blood?’’ Asks Hermione

‘’Listen last night, I’m guessing snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could get past that three headed dog but he got bit that's why he’s limping.’’explains Harry ‘’But why would anyone want to go near that dog!?’’Hermione questioned ‘’the day me and hagrid went to Gringotts hagrid took something out of one of the vaults said it was Hogwarts business very secret’’Harry pointed out Hermione starts to say ‘’so you’re saying’’ ‘’that’s what the dogs guarding that’s what snape wants’’ As mail starts bursting through Harry gets an unusual shaped package kind of like a broom ‘’it’s a bit early for mail isn’t it?’’exclaims Hermione
